The SoundSniffer is a simple, effective and low budget device suited to sound designers, field recordists, sound installation artists, performing and recording musicians, workshop facilitators and instrument builders.
The SoundSniffer is a three channel mono preamplifier for piezo / contact mic, electret condenser mic and pickup coil. Each sensor has its own channel with individual gain and power requirements. The three channels sum to a mono buffer stage. Simply connect a sensor to the appropriate channel using standard 3.5mm minijack sockets and listen or record via the line out jack. There is an on-off slide switch and master volume knob on the device, which runs off a 9v PP3 battery (not included). Kit Options: DIY basic: The kit contains the PCB and all components, piezo disc (contact mic), electret condenser microphone capsule and inductor coil sensors, some microphone cable and minijack plugs. Also included is a laser cut enclosure. 9V battery not included. Build time is approximately 1 hour. It's an easy build consisting of jacks, resistors, capacitors and one integrated circuit. Soldering skills and equipment essential with this!! See other kit options below if this is not for you. Assembled with sensor bundle: A fully assembled and tested SoundSniffer with the more versatile Single Coil, Two Pole Magnetic Pickup and Magnetic Contact Microphone in place of the basic piezo disc and inductor. Everything you need to make some fascinating aural explorations and recording, just add a battery! Documentation: Full instructions document here |
