Digital Fabrication is the term used to describe turning digitally produced drawings or models into real objects with computer controlled making machines. The focus of the course will be on elementary design and prototyping skills using musical instrument design as the topic. Participants will be introduced to 2D and 3D computer aided design software, electronic circuits and Arduino for programming interactivity, and will extensively use a 100W laser cutter, CNC router and Formlabs SLA 3D printer.
The workshop will be run by and take place in Ed Devane's studio, home of SoniPhorm. Some of the work produced over the 6 day course will be selected to be part of an associated exhibition in a local art centre. The studio is situated in the very scenic northwest Donegal along the Wild Atlantic Way, and is surrounded by truly stunning scenery. So when not in the studio you can explore the beaches and walkways in this unspoilt part of Ireland.
Places are very limited. Accommodation is included for the first 3 people to sign up. Candidates will be interviewed to ensure suitability. While this is a beginner's course, good general computer skills would be essential, as would your own laptop.
